Is it normal/common for wives to have to tell their husbands when to shower?

Hubby today smelled like a mix of smoke, sweat, pee and feces. No joke. He's 50yo. He APPARENTLY can't smell himself. Is it normal for some guys to just not care about hygiene. I'm sick of it.
